Glider Game (planning)
Story: Talia is a third generation glider, following in her dad's footsteps, where he flew on Uris, she flies a Hawk with her AI buddy Monte, a drone that warns of incoming attacks that looks like a sparrow. She flies with her girlfriend Kami on the bottom seat. She aims to compete in the cutthroat sport of Sky Taming, competing with all sorts of individuals including her friends. Marxi and Haligan are a couple that fly the Alba class, largest of the gliders, and do so for leisure most of the time. Kerry, Haligan's best friend, often pushes him to compete in the events. Zadtka flies on the Uris and is androgynous and the most tolerable of the Uris fliers, as they tend to be a YOLO crowd, where Talia enjoys both competition and flying, and Marxi and Haligan only enjoy flying. Ms. Terri also competes with them, but is a master at the other gliders and proves so by entering the field with only an umbrella of her own creation that allows her to steal gliders of other competitors to rise above others. Talia's group of friends is known as the Parasailors, while the others are only individuals. Marxi and Haligan share an AI owl named Koko who complains about being up during daytime. Zadtka has a pet flying squirrel who they can communicate with, and Ms. Terri's umbrella is her AI helper. The other competitors include:
Tammy: Hawk, Uris, loves pink and cats, embarrassed by compliments to such a degree that she would kick you off the glider. Flying heart AI helper.
Haqr: Uris, Hawk, can alter the AI of the helpers to steal and scuttle competitors. His own helper is a tech raven.
Bo: Uris only, carries a staff that he can use to catch a ride on unknowing opponents top of gliders. He is a monk with a love of the sky. His helper is a fruit bat that he understands.
Frank: Hawk, Alba, big burly guy, way out of place in the sky. Uses a mechanical glider with jets to slow his falling while giving him more speed forward. Uses a pellet blaster to scuttle, but it takes a few seconds to load and fire. Has a flying piglet AI buddy.
EZ420, known as Ezazo: Hawk, Uris, Robotic android human that can become a glider that another can fly, but has no outside controls. Does not have enough power to hover, only glide. Can scuttle by flying into others whole being a glider and remain intact. Can overload core to scuttle AoE. Has no need for AI buddy, but internal second voice.
Decklin': Hawk, Alba, Tammy's ex boyfriend, stacked and bursting through his lumberjack outfit. His AI is a helicopter beaver. Can cling to cliff longer thanks to muscles.
Aster01D: Hawk only, techy-musical girl with cybernetic vibe, has a pet AI dragon glider that can evade attacks sometimes on its own, can climb cliffs a short distance upward before going back to gliding or falling.
Verva: Alba only, hooded woman covered fully in purple tattoos, she looks to be unaffected by wind as it whips her torn up cloak when flying and falling, except the hood which remains motionless hiding her face except for glowing eyes. Has an eye bat as pet that can paralyze enemies for a few seconds and assists her in fending off others. If scuttled, teleports to the side of perpetrator.
Xen: Uris, Hawk, Alba, Ms. Terri's teacher's pet. Only other that can fly on all types except Umbr. Has pet is a Robin.
Professor Ralo: Hawk, Alba, wears a brown suit with elbow patches. Has a paper helicopter AI buddy. Can confuse any humans younger than him with very personal questions and comments, does not work on Ms. Terri.
Corey: Hawk, Alba, woman in her twenties, can only ride on top of the gliders. If tries to switch to underneath, falls off right away. Wears a skimpy surfing outfit. Has a move that uses a foldout sail fin to gain altitude as if she was on a parasailer sometimes, it makes her figure wiggle.
Trailer: Young girl watches her cool dad jump off a cliff as he salutes her frivolously. She rushes to the edge where a barrier catches her as he appears rising on a gust of wind wearing a flying squirrel suit, Uris class glider. He folds it back up to catch her glance with a smile and opens it back up to glide away from the edge as she watches him in marvel. Zooms in on her eye in wonder as the scene shifts to her at about twenty, geared up with a long tube slung over the shoulder. She smiles with determination and confidence while reaching for a loose strap hanging from the tube as she runs off the cliff from her memory. She disappears behind the edge, then bursts out just like her dad in the memory on a foldable glider. She sails out into the open world as other gliders join her. A person flying on a Uris lands on top of her glider and shakes her off from controls but she shoots a hook out while in the air that reels her back into the controls and shakes off the invader with a tuck roll. With a grimace, she uses her other wrist to fire a dart that cuts one of the sections of the Uris making the invader spiral out and fall. The girl switches to the top of the glider that feels bouncy under her weight and takes control of the glide with her feet controls. A larger glider casts a shadow over her and she looks up to find the Alba class glider, white in the sky with two people listening to music on one pair of headphones sitting side by side on the bottom of the glider. She angles to get above them and gets off her glider as it folds back to the tube on a shoulder strap like before. She lays down over the front of the glider to surprise her friends, but they are on alert thinking it is an invader. They greet and one of the pair pulls out a Uris bundle then jumps off the seat as the bundle springs over their body and opens to glide next to them. The girl stands and jumps off the large glider to open into her Hawk type as all three near a mountainside and are scattered with unpredictable wind.
You start with 3 gliders (2 for Alba, 4 for Uris). The wings, colors, designs, are customizable. You have spring loaded hooks for stealing extra gliders from others with, and a knife to cut a line when someone else tries to steal yours or to shred someone else's glider as you fall. You have rocks you can throw to try and scuttle gliders below, and short spears to try to shoot ones above you. There are two positions on the glider, laying on bottom, and surfing on top (only for hawk and alba, alba has a seat on top, and 2 seater on bottom) Each mode has a safety measure to prevent attacks. Button on top releases holds on bottom, and lever on bottom springboards the person from top.
The gliders are 10 meters wide (hawk 10 meters, alba 18) and the field is a circular donut of varying altitudes to maps provided
If stolen, a glider will convert to your type and design instantly. (Umbr*)
Calm Mountain (no fight, no disturbance flight around a stunning mountain at sea, updrafts near mountain, perches to land on and hang out at to talk)
King’s Peak (Fight version of Calm Mountain)
Yeti Peak (the yeti will throw ice at you from 200 meters, and at 3 meters they will grab you out of the air, updrafts are only close to mountain, fight and no fight modes)
Finger of God (tornado circling, outermost safe, the closer, the more unpredictable the wind, if too close, goes into tornado which may lose you equipment and may propel you back up, fight and no fight modes)
Infernal Cauldron (circling a volcano about to erupt, dodge flying molten rocks and look out for limited visibility of the smoke stack, get too close and lose most visibility, fight and no fight modes)
Thursday (lightning storm, avoid being highest person to avoid lightning, continuous updrafts will seek to put you in range of lightning, avoid being too close to others for chain lightning effect, circling a heavy downpour, when in downpour, instant scuttle, possible to save by hooking onto another glider and then able to open new glider or steal one, fight and no fight modes)
Tower of Babelion (construction site in the olden times, built on sticks and stones, which periodically fall from the structure. NPCs in tower shouting in different languages while throwing tools and stones at gliders, big lion on top swatting at anyone close by and roaring an air push in various directions, can be defeated with enough spears and rocks, drops legendary loot, fight only)
Invasion Zone
(Circling an open area over the ocean with alien creatures suspended in the air that look like leathery jellyfish. Central big alien being tethered to space above, can shoot tether to have it drop into the water and attack a wide area of lower 1000m over the water. In night, central being is dormant unless you are too close to get eaten. Updrafts near all alien beings, and main).
Day and night versions of each map.
The play starts at 10,000 meters, and gliders lose on average 6 meters per second in flight 14m glide per 1m drop for Hawk, 8m glide per 1m drop for Uris, 24m glide per 1m drop for Alba, giving plenty of time to seek out other players and get their supplies while battling the central threat. Each glider can be folded up for freefall, and deployed as low as 20 meters from the ground/water. The hooks are not used up. You can land on another's glider from freefall if they are not flying on top (if they are on top, they instantly ward you off, free fall only, hook line can be cut, but if not instant), and can take the bottom spot if they are surfing it on top, but be wary of safety measures.
At night, gliders have lanterns on wingtips and can be decorated with neon art, but do not need to as visibility is only reduced. At 400 meters away from the threat surface, there is an air current barrier that barrel rolls the glider back. The glider can barrel roll to avoid enemies and central threat. They can be thrown into a dive and recovered to a glide again.
Different glider models, flying squirrel model falls faster and can be ripped. It also has an extra folded up charge.
Alba class - slowest glide drop, most visible, susceptible to changing winds, two spots under wings, one on top, three people max, can alternate positions.
Hawk class - the most versatile, decent glide, less visible unless customized to be seen, able to avoid wind changes well, two spots, top and bottom.
Uris class - hardest to find in the sky due to fastest drop and small size, one person craft, fully capable of avoiding turbulent winds.
Umbr class - a class for those who wish to start game with a slightly slowed descent and pick up gear in the field with grappling hook, umbrella is a semi-parachute, strong construction, one charge only. This is the ONLY class that can fly on any of the gliders. The stolen gliders don’t turn into umbrellas but remain the class they were stolen from. This class has a way to customize each class of glider instead of just the umbrella. This class is also less impacted by the heavy downpour of Thursday map.
NPCs in the field you can steal from.
NPCs that collide into each other and players that have to be avoided.
Freedom to fly in any direction, but gliding free curves you into a spiral around the object in the level.
Can be scuttled by NPC flying into you.
For the most part, can use hook to connect to central mass and hang there, but an updraft dislodges the hook progressively faster each time it is used in that way.
NPC paths are predictable, but they have a few situations that cause them to scuttle themselves. Some fly closer to the central mass, some crash into others by targeting them once, but if dodged, they return to regular cruising. You do not have to steal gliders from players, but NPCs are limited per round and the last person in the air wins.
The area undergoes compression mode due to increasingly choppy air the lower you get. As the round goes on, the choppy air climbs higher until the whole field is a hurricane.
Special mode: Hurricane. Unpredictable winds out in the open with a standard city underneath. Wind can smash you up against the buildings and other players.
Talia (female) flies on the Hawk glider with Monte as the AI buddy that helps her fend off attacks. Sometimes she carries Kami (female) on the bottom seat, her girlfriend.
Marxi (female) and Haligan (male) fly on the Alba, sometimes joined by Kerry (male), Halligan’s best friend.
Zadtka (androgynous) flies on the Uris, and wears crazy goggles that help with targeting and fending off attacks in the air.
Ms. Terri (female) flies on the Umbrella in Victorian era clothing. When she takes another glider, her clothing changes, old-timey aviator for Hawk, Scientist lab coat on Alba, and steampunk look for Uris.
Tammy: Hawk, Uris, loves pink and cats, embarrassed by compliments to such a degree that she would kick you off the glider. Flying heart AI helper.
