Chapter 9 - The Second Heals The First

I came back to the library to some calm insanity. JJ was there, but the whole space was filled with a bundle of racetrack. The sound of toy cars whooshing past was like a constant song of a thousand cicadas. Rebecca was back to regular age, so she might have felt me arrive, but I needed to deal with this first.

I flew above the building and inspected the bundles of orange track expanding from the tree-house, into Rebecca’s home, then into the library. JJ had too much freedom, but I needed to be careful taking it away. He was another Finnelgamin in terms of being able to edit the space they both occupied. I had to talk to him, or the whole space would soon be occupied by toy car tracks.

“JACK!” a voice shouted from below. It was Rebecca, on the roof of the library. “Jack!” I flew down to find her clothes all torn up. Instantly, I felt Finn needed to be punished, but if she couldn’t calm him, finding Moredo and John would not go over well.

“What are you doing here?” I asked. “Did Finn go berserk?”

“Of course he did,” Rebecca explained. “His beast sits on his mind because of what he suffered at your hands. I did what I could for now, but he still rebelled a bit. When I came to JJ for help, he just threw me up onto the roof. He said I was ‘in the way of his project’.”

Ah, he did think this whole endeavor was stupid. JJ just wanted to write his stories, but then when disconnected from the space with access to the void, he focused on the first thing he found, putting way too much effort into it.

“Maybe I should absorb him back,” I suggested. “The amount of freedom he has here is ridiculous. Where’s Finn?” Rebecca looked away.

“Well, he was coming after me,” she said. “But then JJ threw me up on here. I guess he’d know. I flexed my hands until some cracked.

“Alright,” I said, holding my out a hand to Rebecca. “It might get a bit crazy down there, so be careful.” She grabbed hold as we dropped through the roof and attic to arrive in superhero fashion to the library.

“Hey, JJ,” I said walking up to the kid version of me who was imagining pieces of the track and popping them into existence only to drop them into a pile. “Have you seen Finnelgamin?”

“Eh, who?” He asked, barely paying attention. I clapped my hands once as the bundle of track disappeared from existence. That got his attention. “Hey! Stop that! I don’t know who you mean!” Rebecca stepped up to take a different approach.

“You remember when I ran in yesterday and asked for your help?” She asked.

“And I threw you onto the roof,” JJ said, smiling as if everything was a joke.

“Yeah,” Rebecca said, visibly internalizing anger towards the brat. “Did anyone else run in looking for me?” JJ closed his eyes for a moment.

“Yeah, there was someone,” JJ said. “This one guy threatened me, so I turned him into a mousy again and put a dull-o-sphere around him. That Queen of White Thorn sure loves to be naked, huh? But her body is all vines and thorns, so how come? I don’t get her. Even the boobies are thorns.” I was taken aback that he knew how to summon her, but it was just a story. Even if beast and I made it sexual, there was still a plot in it. I looked around for the glowing sphere, but it was impossible with all the tracks around. I could erase JJ’s hard work out of existence, but Rebecca’s hand stopped me. I followed her arm down to her chest, which was visible through the tatters of clothes. I felt beast rattle at the cage as blood filled the often flaccid part of my anatomy. With a writhing thought, I redressed her instantly.

“Hey!” she exclaimed.

“Sorry, beast was starting his shit again,” I said.

“Well, we will have to eventually do something about that,” Rebecca said. “But for now, JJ, where did you put the mouse afterwards?”

“The attic, duh,” he said. “There was already a cage up there for it.”

“See?” Rebecca said, letting go of my hand. “The ‘wreck-it’ approach isn’t always the way to go, Jack.” I rolled my eyes. I’d have to deal with JJ soon, but it was best to check on Finn for now. We flew up to find the mouse pleading to be let out again. I restructured Finn just as he was when subdued. He fell to his knees in apology beside Rebecca.

“I’m so sorry!” He almost shouted. “I felt this anger inside me, this lust, a dragon-like greed. This was a bad idea, Jack, Rebecca. You can’t quell the unrelenting Finn.” Rebecca didn’t look ready to give up.

“We’re doing it again,” she said. “I just need some alternative measures. Jack, please make the dull-o-cap be put on and removed by remote. Also, I want there to be a mute button on the controller and a button to immobilize Finn. And remember, base it in magic, as that’s more powerful than imagination.” I threw my hand toward Finn and caught the remote, before handing it over.

“Yes, yes,” Rebecca said, almost pulling thoughts from my mind. “You have to go. Work awaits. Go on. I need to tame this person to get to your beast. Go.” I didn’t say anything else and left.

When I came back the next day at coffee, Rebecca was sitting in the library with her nose in a book. She looked up to see me, but went back to reading. I wondered why she was here all the time, but it was obvious that I gave her an affinity for reading. It was something I lacked in myself, making editing JJ’s work such a nightmare.

“Hey,” I said.

“Hey,” she replied. “Lemme just finish this chapter, ok?” I stood there for a minute as she read. “Damn, a tracker.”

“Where’s Finn?” I asked, as Rebecca put a finger between the pages of the book where she left it.

“Probably off with Eva, doing as bunnies do,” She replied. “We took a bit of a break. That bad side of him is a tough nut to crack, but don’t you worry. I’m coming for you, beast.” She said it with such passion that beast took over my mouth for a moment.

“You will, stupid girl, you will,” I said and almost bit my tongue trying to stop his flicker of control. “Sorry. He used a lot of effort on that and caught me off guard.”

“That’s just exciting,” Rebecca said, biting her lower left lip. I could dunk her into a tub of ice with a quick motion, but she would hate me for it. It was better to just change the topic.

“I see the toy car race tracks are gone,” I said. “Did you have something to do with that miracle?”

“That was all Finn,” Rebecca replied. “The calm one. He talked to JJ, and poof, racetracks gone. I don’t even know what he said, but JJ’s been at my place for a while now, playing games on the TV.” That must have been it, the flux from the physical world to the virtual one. Even if anything was possible here, stuff got in the way. In video games, JJ could free his mind without the reality of coding and artwork design.

“That’s good,” I said. “Now only if the real Finnelgamin could be that helpful, that would be great. But I guess that’s on you.” Rebecca was looking around the library for a moment.

“This is Foradim’s library, isn’t it?” She asked. I had a feeling the tome in her hands looked familiar. What a fun coincidence for a book about the building to end up on the shelves of this library.

“A recreation, yes,” I said with a smile. “It has no lush forest of green beyond the double doors, just the outside, but otherwise it’s more like Tiarto’s home.” Rebecca scoffed.

“It was never Tiarto’s home,” she said. “He was just hired help. Sure, the old man adopted him, but not to raise him. I bet that garden was full of kids that failed to tend to it. Just bones in the ground and fertilizer.”

“That’s pretty dark,” I said. “But I’m glad you’re reading it. Maybe you can help me edit the text when you’re done.”

“Priorities, get them straight, Jack,” she said. “You don’t even have JJ inside you right now.”

“He’s all about story,” I said. “Once the rough run is out, he’s useless. That’s why editing is annoying. It all falls on my shoulders, and it’s not something I enjoy doing.” I flicked a finger to create a bookmark for Rebecca to save the spot in the story. It was a golden leaf that tucked between the pages and stuck out its stem beyond.

“Want to go for a walk?” I asked.

“Sure,” she replied, jumping to her feet. “Where to?” I plucked a piece of chalk from the air like a magician and presented it to her.

“Somewhere new,” I said, handing it over to her. “Another story of mine, someone else’s tale, or maybe just a place from either I’d like to show you.” Rebecca held the chalk in her fingers, but hesitated.

“Draw a door-”

“How come I can’t do this?” She asked. “You just think of something, wave a hand, snap your fingers, flick a finger, and it comes to reality. JJ has that, too. And Finn, the real one. You said this is my space, isn’t it? Shouldn’t I be the most powerful being here?”

“I call it 'Rebecca’s space' because it’s where you are,” I said. There was a feeling of fear bubbling up in me. She wanted freedom again, just like Finn. Was this going to be another failed attempt? “It’s freedom you want, but let me ask you, what would you do if you had this power? Would you change things about yourself? Would you force Finn into submission by use of it?”

“Possibly,” Rebecca said. “It would make things easier, that’s for sure. All you have to do is wave a hand and we can walk around in a different world. That’s pretty amazing.”

“And what world would you bring me into that I could not not bring you into?” I asked. “All your ideas are mine. The stories you read in the library are things that I’ve inhaled. It’s secondhand imagination. Do you have any thoughts of your own?”

“I think you’re being an asshole,” Rebecca said, matter-of-factually.

“Not original,” I said. “Finnelgamin thought that since I took his love away and gave her back as a trick. You don’t have that ability simply because you have no use for it.” I wondered if I was too harsh, but she needed to understand that her existence started with my seeking of a dietitian, a job she never even gave a shot. It was my issue, to be honest. I created her to escape loneliness after Finn was meant to be settled. The chalk fell to the ground where it broke into three pieces. I searched for Rebecca’s eyes, but she faced away from me. It was too clear that she was crying, and I was definitely the cause.

“AM I ORIGINAL?” She shouted without turning. “IS THIS ORIGINAL ENOUGH FOR YOU?” It wasn’t. This was a very deep and painful cliche, but I couldn’t tell her that now. I considered hugging her, but she shook sadness off, and with tears still flowing from her eyes, turned to face me. I felt myself take root in the ground and grow old with age. Was that her? Did she do that?

“YOU JUST WAIT!” She bellowed into the air of the library, her breath coming out in golden particles. “I WILL TAME YOUR FIRST INSANITY, THEN YOU WILL SEE WHAT I CAN DO!” She ran off without another word as I watched the dance of golden leaves behind her while still rooted to the hardwood floor. My branches above were barren, but she had life within so dazzling. The sight took my breath away as I crumbled to ash out of Rebecca’s space.

I’m not there now, and this is only ink on a page. I came back to speak with her, to explain that she’s not meant to be original, only unique. Was that not the same thing? No, original applied to all, where unique applied only to those viewing it so. It was an opinion, after all. A cliche moment could be unique to one involved in it. I would never forget her words which turned me into a tree, even if the moment felt borrowed. To me, it was unique, yet I feared what more she could do now that she gained such necessary anger of expression. Perhaps it was a flame of emotion. I had no time for this. Que Sera, Sera. I had to face her like I’ve faced Finn. Not to mention JJ was still there.

I returned out of phase into an empty library. The only light coming into the space was arriving through the tall windows and the day was ending just like in my world. She knew I arrived, but would she come find me? It was unlikely she tamed Finn, but in that huff she could have gotten herself hurt, or worse, mentally scarred. Finnelgamin saw most of my mind, even the darkness hidden there, but not all. I feared him damaging her mind more than anything else. And yet, I believed she could withstand him thanks to that display of unknown power.

After a few minutes of waiting, I set out to look for her. JJ still sat in her living room, with many devices connected by cables between him and the screen. In the time he spent there, he had created two games. One had glider warfare while flying down around a big monster. There was combat in the air, stealing gliders from others, and grappling hooks that got everyone around. I knew this one from an idea he had before. The other was a miniature platformer that occurred within one centimeter of distance.

“Hey,” I said. He only glanced away while typing up a storm of keys.

“What do YOU want?” he asked.

“You seen Rebecca?” I asked. The extended silence that followed upset me. I grimaced and put my hand on his shoulder only to sink in as he absorbed back into me. I felt him kicking and screaming in my head again, but now he was back in my mental realm. Into his padded cell he went until he cooled off. If anything, I accomplished taking him back, but felt that Rebecca needed more time. I’d come back tomorrow morning and seek her out. While away, I decided to give her one more neighbor, someone who could help her to some extent.

His name would be Hunter, a male of her age with certain hidden aspect, a cursed eye that was versed in magic and held great power. I kinda felt that he needed a story of his own, but for now he was only a helper to keep Rebecca safe, or so I hoped.

break

I came back to find Eva and Finn stumbling about the floor of the library as if fighting. It only took a moment to realize that was not it. I went out of phase to observe. If Rebecca came to find me, she would see them instead. Finn’s hair glowed as the only light in the dark library. The blinds were closed on the morning light, yet did not need to be. Perhaps Eva was embarrassed to disrobe where visible to Finn. I popped one of the shutters open as if it broke. Neither noticed, but both didn’t mind the clothing as Finn’s face was already buried between Eva’s thighs. Her expression was of surprise, yet melted to enjoyment then shivered with pleasure.

I felt beast shake his cage, but had no reason to silence him. He wanted to join, be an invisible third to complete that devil’s threesome, but I knew Finn would not have that. Eva was his, even if he was subdued by the dull-o-cap. He pretty much reanimated the A.I. dead-brain I created. She was savvy now by his side, and visibly entertained. I let beast loose within his cage, and as expected when faced with such a moment he got hold of his penis and started stroking. This would grow me in reality, but I was nowhere near a reasonable place to entertain it.

Rebecca walked in so slowly and quietly that I almost didn’t see her. I was still out of phase, but she knew I was here. Would she stop their session? Would she call me out to their knowledge before beast could finish? To my surprise, she didn’t do either, only crouched to watch them for a moment. I half-expected, by thoughts of beast, for Rebecca to use the scene for her enjoyment, but I saw determination in her eyes like never before. beast ran with the idea of her fingering off to Eva's moans, and finished the stroke-fest within his cage. While this wasn’t a real-life climax, it made for an uncomfortable few hours in the underwear.

I watched her watching them for a few minutes, and noticed a visible blush on her face, but it remained serious and composed when Finn’s erection entered Eva with a gasp. beast was gearing up for another go, but I decided to chain him back up in his cage. Rebecca was waiting for something. I just had no idea what until Eva sounded off an orgasm. Finn sped up to reach his own like a gentleman after the lady got hers, but Rebecca moved. She took out her remote and released the dull-o-cap from his head once he was so close he could not stop. Finn’s expression changed to anger of his true self, but he could not stop the motion of life itself.

A roar of immense magnitude shook the whole library house as he finished the deed inside Eva. His face was full of rage, even if he just had the most pleasurable experience in his life. The anger burst forth as he threw Eva across the library. I waved a hand to dress her, land her comfortably, and put her to a short sleep. I was still out of phase, but Finn looked right at me. He could see me.

“YOU DARE PUT A PUSSY ON ME AND DRIVE ME TO ORGASM?! JACK! SHOW YOURSELF!” He bellowed. I’ve already created a form, but Rebecca stepped forward. “YOU! HE LIKES YOU! IF YOU DON’T COME SAVE HER, I WILL RAPE HER RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU, JACK!” Rebecca stood her ground with determined eyes, but I could see her lower jaw shake. Finn grew in the space to a giant's proportions.

“Did you not enjoy yourself, Finnelgamin?” She asked. “I wanted you to be conscious for a climax of the woman you love!”

“LOVE?!” Finn bellowed in a heavy rumble. “I LOVE ONLY ONE IN THIS LIFE AND SHE IS GONE! ALL BECAUSE JACK WANTED TO PLAY GOD!” Rebecca nodded. Her hand extended with a remote and immobilized the giant with one click.

“WHAT IS THIS?”

“Magic,” she said. “Jack made it for me to tame you, but that’s not what I wish to do. I want to free you from this endless rage, and what you told me helps. Sleep for now, Finnelgamin. I wish to speak to you again soon.” Rebecca clicked the button to put the cap back on and Finn shrunk back to his former self. I wondered whether I should create myself a form again and praise her, but she didn’t let me.

“I know you’re watching, Jack,” she said. “I will solve this anger inside him, and then I’m coming after you, monster. You can come watch me anytime, Jack. I won’t mind him seeing the worst of me because I want to know the worst of you. If that means that you come around to Sam’s sex dungeon, so be it. Have your go at it, puppy. I will have you all to myself soon enough.” beast was unusually quiet after that.

“Oh, god, Eva!” Finn shouted, running up to where she was.

“You’re naked, Finn,” Rebecca said holding out his pants. I smiled, leaving her to her task.

Next, I returned at coffee. I did not make a form, but a note awaited me on the table from Rebecca. It read: “I’m at home taking a long bath. Come by whenever you wish.” Before I could put it down, beast somehow displaced us to the door of her bathroom. I had no form, so when he reached for the handle, it simply passed through. Before he could form up, I bound him in chains again, but a deep gurgle of his words bubbled in my brain. He spoke so rarely, I’d almost forgotten that rough voice.

#She offered,# he said. #If you think she can handle me, let her have a taste of my fear.# I considered the idea, but it was a dangerous path. If I freed beast too much, he’d just go after me.

#Hands and mouth only,# I though and freed his chains. He was still in his cage, and enclosed by a metal fence of impossible height that was gated with chains, but I was in control no longer. He made a form for himself, with edited features, what he wanted to look like.

I saw his hand on the handle tighten with excitement and could feel his blood throb between his legs. The door opened slowly and he had to shrink a bit to get through the door frame.

There was Rebecca, naked in the tub. Her clothes were folded up on the toilet, but my hand reached out to them and they vanished into cinders. My body was a bit red and blood boiled within the new form.

“Jack,” Rebecca said. Her eyes shifted below where a part of my anatomy stood pointing at her. “No, you’re not Jack. You’re him.” He said nothing only stepped closer until the top of said erection was above her. Rebecca wasn’t shaking with fear as I had anticipated. Did she not understand what he meant to do? Without warning, her hand grabbed hold of what stuck out toward her and pulled herself up on it to reveal her naked, glistening body I created. beast was just as shocked as I was. I felt the uncomfortable feeling, a drip in my reality, as the hand held on tight.

Without even a glance, Rebecca pulled a towel from the rack and started wiping off the surface moisture of her skin. The towel surface went to all places, exposing her nudity to the ever throbbing erection that yearned to pop. I had to hold his legs back from motion. Otherwise, he would have already plunged the length into either opening exposed to him. As Rebecca went to wrap the towel around her, beast touched the fabric and burned it to ash. With the fabric gone, Rebecca locked eyes with us.

“Well?” she asked. “You gonna just point that thing at me, or are you going to use it?” Something within beast snapped from lust to rage, but before he could reach out to harm her, I faded us from her space and chained him back up.

break

“…It’s just so maddening a thought,” Finn said, as I entered the library in ghostly form. Rebecca looked up from a notepad as Finn paused all the same. “He’s here, isn’t he?” He had no dull-o-cap on and was this calm?

“Remember what we talked about?” Rebecca asked. “Breathe in, breathe your anger out. Go ahead and try it.” Finnelgamin took a giant breath in and grit his teeth as the air rushed out. “Good. Keep going.” Rebecca stood up and put her stuff down. Next, she ducked between bookshelves. “Jack, come here.” I made a form next to her.

“Hey,” I said. “You’re amazing! I’ve never seen him so calm as when you had him on the couch just now.”

“I’m going to need you to stay away for a few weeks while I work on him,” she said. “He’s in a fragile place, healing-wise. I’m afraid your presence only sets us back. Can you… not come over for a few weeks?” I was a bit taken aback. My own character was telling me not to write. Would it be the same with beast? Would I not get to see how she fixed things all the way in this space I created for her? It was a bit unfair to me, and all because of stupid JJ and his honest intentions.

“Fine,” I replied. “I’ll stay away and write something else. Have you met Hunter yet?”

“The guy with the magic eye?” she asked. “Yeah. He’s a handful to deal with right now, so please don’t make any more people for the neighborhood, ok?” I frowned. He was meant to help her, but only became a burden.

“Yeah,” I said. Before I left, I wondered if I should tell her that she is like me and Finn, but hoped no action occurred that would force her to create from her mind. Those could happen on a whim, but mostly came out when threatened. “I wish you luck. Oh, and I’m sorry about before. In the bathroom?”

“I’m the one that’s sorry,” she said. “I wasn’t ready for him. Next time, I’ll be better prepared.” I didn’t understand what she meant, but didn’t seek understanding.

“Alright,” I said. “I wish you luck.” As I vanished from the space, I saw a golden leaf in her hair. Maybe she already knew.
